Fatal crash involving pedestrian in Independence
The Independence Police Department is currently investigating a tragic incident that took place early Saturday morning involving a pedestrian and a vehicle. The collision occurred at the intersection of 23rd and Emery streets, where a pedestrian walking in the eastbound lanes was struck by a Nissan Pathfinder traveling in the same direction. The pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital but, unfortunately, passed away due to the injuries sustained. The driver of the Nissan Pathfinder stayed at the scene and is collaborating with the authorities. As a result of the crash, the eastbound lanes of 23rd Street between Emery Street and Leslie Avenue were closed for approximately three hours.
