Fatal crash involving 3 juveniles in stolen car
In Bakersfield, California, a tragic incident occurred when three young individuals were hurt, with one tragically losing their life, following a police chase that culminated in a collision on eastbound Highway 178. The authorities were alerted to a stolen 2014 Hyundai Sonata by officers at Flower and King streets around 5:17 p.m. The vehicle initially led law enforcement westbound before changing direction towards 24th Street. Due to concerns about the car's high speeds, officers discontinued the pursuit upon its entry onto eastbound Highway 178. Shortly thereafter, the Hyundai collided with a bridge abutment, flipped over, crossed the center divider, and finally came to a stop on the south side of westbound Highway 178. The California Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation into this incident, which saw the occupants, described only as juveniles, ejected from the vehicle. Emergency services transported all three to hospital, where one succumbed to their injuries, as confirmed by California Highway Patrol.
