Fatal crash in New Bedford leaves one dead and several injured
A tragic accident took place on Route 18 in New Bedford on Friday involving multiple vehicles, leading to the death of a young woman identified as 23-year-old Ruby Quiro Santos from New Bedford. District Attorney Thomas Quinn III reported that Santos' car broke down in the left lane around 9 p.m., prompting her to exit the vehicle. As she and another woman approached an Audi for help, they were struck by another vehicle, causing a chain reaction involving multiple vehicles including police cruisers. All individuals involved were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, with Santos tragically passing away the following day and the other woman in critical but stable condition. The others sustained minor injuries or are expected to recover. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
