Fatal collision involving elderly man with dementia and USC student on I-385, coroner confirms
A tragic incident occurred on Interstate 385 in Laurens County, where a 20-year-old University of South Carolina student and a gentleman suffering from dementia lost their lives in a collision. The accident took place near the Highway 221 exit around 10:15 p.m. on Thursday. According to officials, the driver of a 2024 Subaru, identified as 20-year-old Adriana Torres Lopez from Simpsonville, was heading south on I-385. Meanwhile, a 2005 Nissan driven by 66-year-old Michael Cutshaw from Marion, North Carolina, was traveling in the wrong direction on the southbound lane, resulting in a collision with the Subaru. Tragically, both drivers passed away at the scene. The Laurens County coroner disclosed that Cutshaw's wife had reported him missing earlier that day, and authorities were in the process of locating him when the crash occurred.
