Fatal car crash in Stanislaus County claims life of 80-year-old woman

(FOX40.COM) — An 80-year-old woman died in a crash between two cars Tuesday in Stanislaus County, the California Highway Patrol said. According to CHP, officers responded to reports of a crash around 5:31 p.m. in the area of Gratton Road and East Avenue in Denair. The investigation determined that a 16-year-old girl was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck southbound on Gratton Road, approaching a stop sign at East Avenue, with a 77-year-old man as her passenger. Meanwhile, a 76-year-old man was driving a Honda westbound on East Avenue, with an 80-year-old woman as the passenger. CHP said the teen did not yield the right of way and entered the intersection in the path of the Honda. The front of the Honda hit the left side of the Chevrolet. The 16-year-old female from El Dorado Hills was left with minor injuries, while her 77-year-old passenger from Winton was not injured. According to CHP, the 76-year-old driver from Delhi was taken to the hospital with major injuries, while his 80-year-old female passenger from Delhi was taken to the hospital where she died. All occupants were wearing a seatbelt and DUI was not a factor.
