Fatal car crash causes man's death

A man from Springfield has passed away due to injuries sustained in a single-car accident in Turner County last December. The South Dakota Department of Public Safety reported that the 66-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle on Third Street near Dewey Avenue in Chancellor, resulting in a crash just before 10 p.m. on Dec. 22. The driver unfortunately succumbed to his injuries on Jan. 2. The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of family members. The driver veered off the road's east side, hitting a utility pole, skimming past an RV, and ultimately coming to a stop on a nearby resident's lawn. He was rushed to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls with severe injuries and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.
