Fatal car accident in South Sacramento; 1 killed, 2 hurt, CHP probes
One person was tragically killed and two others were injured in a car accident in South Sacramento on Sunday afternoon. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the incident occurred as a vehicle traveling eastbound on Mack Road ran a red light and collided with another vehicle turning onto Elise Avenue. The impact of the crash caused the second vehicle to veer left, striking a pedestrian on a concrete island. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The first vehicle then continued into westbound lanes, hitting multiple vehicles. The driver who hit the pedestrian suffered minor to moderate injuries and was taken to a local hospital, while another individual was also transported with minor injuries. Additionally, an occupant in one of the vehicles involved was ejected and potentially hit by another vehicle. Investigations are ongoing, and it remains uncertain if drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
