Fatal ATV crash kills 72-year-old man in Russell
TOWN OF RUSSELL, N.Y. (WWTI) - A 72-year-old man was killed in a fatal four-wheeler crash that took place Tuesday night in St. Lawrence County. According to the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Department, Norman Rafter was pronounced dead at the scene on the Cassidy Road in the town of Russell. The call took place around 9:15 p.m. when deputies "located a 2018 Can-Am Outlander four-wheeler that had exited the road, struck a tree and overturned, pinning the operator under the machine." Authorities were able to extricate Rafter, who was found unconscious and not breathing, and began life-saving measures. However, Rafter died at the scene. Canton Rescue, Russell Fire and the New York State Police assisted the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Department. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
