Fatal accident at 75th Ave and Lower Buckeye Road
Two individuals, including a suspected drunk driver, lost their lives in a tragic crash near 75th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road overnight. The incident, involving two vehicles, occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Thursday. The chain of events began with a traffic stop conducted by a police officer near 59th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road. The driver, identified as Ruben Almanza, displayed signs of impairment and subsequently drove away at a high speed after initial contact with the officer. Almanza's vehicle was later involved in a collision in the same vicinity, where he later passed away at a hospital. The other driver, Melvina Jones, sadly did not survive the crash. An initial inquiry conducted by Phoenix police suggests that Almanza's vehicle, traveling westbound on Lower Buckeye Road, veered into oncoming traffic, resulting in the collision with Jones's eastbound vehicle. The investigation into the incident is still underway.
