Fatal accident as car loses control & crashes into Hillside Walgreens lot
A tragic incident occurred in Hillside on Wednesday afternoon when a car lost control and crashed into a Walgreens parking lot, resulting in the death of a pedestrian and injuries to multiple individuals, including police officers. According to village officials, the car collided with parked cars and people in the 4700 block of Butterfield Road. Emergency responders were called to the scene, and two officers who were in the police squad car involved in the initial collision were seriously injured and taken to Loyola Medical Center. Several other individuals were also transported to medical facilities for treatment, with varying degrees of injuries. The pedestrian who lost their life was an elderly man on a pedestrian ramp at the parking lot corner. The intersection where the incident occurred will remain closed for the day as investigations continue. Initial reports suggest that the driver, also an elderly male, may have experienced a medical emergency rather than intoxication, though further assessment is underway.
