Fatal 3-vehicle crash leaves 1 dead, 3 injured in Ohio
CARROLL COUNTY, OH (WTRF) — One person was killed and three others were injured in a three-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in Carroll County, according to the New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The crash happened around 4:56 p.m. on State Route 43 near milepost 25 in Brown Township. Investigators said a 2012 Subaru Outback was traveling east on State Route 43 while a 2019 Ram 1500 and a 2016 Volkswagen Golf were traveling west. According to the highway patrol, the Volkswagen attempted to pass the Ram and collided head-on with the Subaru. The Ram was then struck by both vehicles. After the crash, the Ram traveled off the north side of the road, and the Subaru overturned onto its roof. The driver of the Subaru, 70-year-old Lee D. Meadows of Waynesburg, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Carroll County Coroner's Office. A passenger in the Subaru, 39-year-old Emily N. Meadows of Malvern, Ohio, was taken by ambulance to Aultman Hospital. Authorities said her seat belt use is unknown. The driver of the Ram, 34-year-old Cole Kneeper of Malvern, suffered minor injuries. Troopers said he was wearing a seat belt and was treated at the scene. The driver of the Volkswagen, 31-year-old Ronald R. Romano III of Malvern, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital. Investigators said Romano was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. Investigators have not determined whether impairment played a role. The crash remains under investigation.
