Fatal 2 vehicle crash in Ohio leaves 1 dead

HOLMES COUNTY, OH — A man died following a two-vehicle crash early Wednesday in Ohio. The crash happened around 4:44 a.m. on April 22, 2026, on State Route 241 south of County Road 235 in Salt Creek Township, according to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said Ronald E. Pappa, 44, of Killbuck, was driving a 2000 Ford Excursion northbound when he passed a tour bus in a marked no-passing zone on a hill. Investigators said Pappa lost control while returning to his lane, crossed left of center, and was struck by a southbound 2007 Ram pickup truck. Both vehicles came to rest in a yard along the roadway. The pickup was driven by Kevin A. Nussbaum, 30, of Apple Creek. Officials said he was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. Pappa was also wearing a seatbelt. He was taken to Pomerene Hospital by East Holmes EMS, where he was later pronounced dead. The road was closed for about two hours while deputies investigated the scene. Assisting agencies included East Holmes Fire and EMS and the Stark County Coroner’s Office. The crash remains under investigation.
