Family reacts to plea deal in car crash that killed HSE football player

(WXIN/WTTV) — Trey Williams says he will plead guilty in the death of Mason Alexander. Alexander was killed in a car crash in March of last year while riding in a car that Williams was driving.  "What a life that got snuffed out early. Talking about gone too soon. Gone too soon. Taken away from us way too soon," said Rahvy Murray, Alexander's uncle.  The 18-year-old star football player at Hamilton Southeastern High School was killed in a car crash last March. His family learned early Wednesday that 18-year-old Trey Williams, who was driving the car, will plead guilty in his death. "You never know if you'll ever get to that point that you really accept it. It's day by day," said Murray. Fishers police say Williams was driving at least 56 miles an hour on Florida Road when he hit a tree. He lost control of his car while trying to make an illegal pass. He had been facing reckless homicide charges before agreeing to plead guilty. A hearing is set for March 11. "There's been a reluctant acceptance of the plea deal. We have to recognize there's nothing that can bring Mason back. We also recognize there were some forces involved that impeded true justice," said Murray. Murray says that while losing a nephew will never get easier, having Williams take responsibility is a step in the right direction. "We want this young man to be a better individual. To look and to learn and not look at life as a big party because he certainly stopped and snuffed out the life of a young promising man that had so much to offer humanity," said Murray. Alexander graduated early from HSE and got a full scholarship to play football at the University of Pittsburgh. But he never got to hit the field.  Away from football, Murray remembers him as full of energy and able to talk to anyone. He says all the family has now are memories "We looked forward to his college debut in football. Of course, we'll never get to see that. He loved his mother, he loved his sisters, he loved his family and he loved God most of all," said Murray
