Ex-CHP officer and DUI suspect plead not guilty in L.A. County crash that killed 4
Two people, a former California Highway Patrol officer and an alleged drunk driver, pleaded not guilty in a Norwalk courtroom Monday morning to second-degree murder charges in connection with a freeway crash that killed four people last year. Prosecutors said 24-year-old ex-CHP Officer Angelo Rodriguez was speeding at 130 mph in the HOV lane on July 19, 2025, without lights or sirens, when his cruiser collided with another car on the 605 Freeway in Norwalk, just north of the 105 interchange. Rodriguez was reportedly uninjured in the crash. He reportedly left the scene of the accident and another vehicle, driven by 27-year-old Iris Salmeron, then struck the disabled car, killing the four people inside. Salmeron and another person in her vehicle were reportedly seriously injured. Investigators later determined that Salmeron was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, according to the DA's office. The four victims killed were identified as Julie Harmori, her boyfriend Armand Del Campo, and their friends Jordan Partridge and Sam Skocilic, all 24 years old. Harmori's aunt said Partridge called his mother after the initial collision with the CHP car as they waited for help inside the disabled vehicle. “And in the middle of a sentence, the line went dead,” she said. Rodriguez is being held on $8 million bail, and Salmeron's bail is set at $8.1 million. Both could face life in prison if convicted. A preliminary hearing is set for July.
