Elderly driver dies after crash with dump truck
A 93-year-old Catskill man died after a crash involving a dump truck on Route 32 in Saugerties. Police said the crash happened June 4, 2026, at about 1 p.m., when a 2022 Volkswagen driven southbound on Route 32 by 93-year-old Robert Goldberg of Catskill, crashed into a 1988 Freightliner dump truck. The truck was driven by a 57-year-old man from Palenville who was making a turn from Route 32 onto Old Route 32. Goldberg was taken to HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston, where he succumbed to his injuries while being treated. The investigation remains open, but no charges are expected at this time. The Saugerties Police Department is being assisted by the New York State Police and the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office Collision Reconstruction Team.
