DUI suspected in violent, fatal crash in downtown Los Angeles: police

Impairment is suspected to be a factor in a violent crash in downtown Los Angeles that left a person dead late Sunday morning, police say.   According to a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson, officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Bay Street at 11:50 a.m. for a report of a two-vehicle collision.   The location provided by police is in DTLA’s Fashion District near the intersection of Bay and Alameda streets. Per the LAPD spokesperson, one person was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. Another person was taken to a hospital, although their condition was not immediately known. Video from the scene posted to the Citizen App shows debris strewn across the roadway and authorities blocking off the area as people gathered nearby. A silver sedan was seen briefly in the footage with severe rear-end damage. The preliminary investigation into the crash indicated DUI is suspected, the LAPD spokesperson confirmed. No further details were immediately made available.  Sofia Pop Perez contributed to this report.
