DUI driver arrested after multi-vehicle crash involving 2 Waymo vehicles in Tempe.
A collision involving two Waymo vehicles and two other cars occurred in Tempe early Sunday morning at the intersection of South Priest Drive and West Baseline Road. According to Tempe Police, the crash was caused by a car traveling eastbound on Baseline Road running a red light and colliding with another car traveling northbound on Priest Drive. The impact of the crash led both cars to collide with the driver's side of the two Waymo vehicles. While one Waymo vehicle was unoccupied, the other had one rider who reported no injuries from the incident. Sadly, the driver of the second car was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, and the two passengers were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver responsible for the crash, identified as 20-year-old Soraya Ruiz, was arrested on charges including aggravated DUI and aggravated assault. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
