Driver who was seriously hurt in deadly Porter Ranch to face charges: police

A 23-year-old man will face charges in connection with a weekend crash that killed one of the passengers in his car, police announced Monday. According to a Los Angeles Police Department media release, Ernesto Ramos was behind the wheel of a gray 2015 Acura that crashed into a pole on Tampa Avenue near Tunney Street in Porter Ranch shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday.  Ramos was traveling at a high rate of speed when the car “lost control, ran off the roadway and collided with a tri-light and private property,” the media release states. “The force of the collision caused one of the passengers to sustain fatal injuries and a second passenger to sustain moderate injuries,” the release continues. Ramos was said to have also sustained serious injuries. The decedent was listed in the media release as a 22-year-old man who was sitting in the rear of the vehicle; his identity was not released pending notification of next of kin. No details on the identity of the other injured passenger were disclosed.   LAPD said Monday that Ramos, a resident of Northridge, remains hospitalized under police custody and will face charges when he is released. The exact charges were not listed.  Anyone with more information on the collision or the circumstances surrounding it is asked to contact Valley Traffic Division Investigator Takishita by calling 818-644-8116.
