Driver trapped in car, hospitalized after accident in Commerce Twp.
An 87-year-old man was hospitalized after being trapped inside his car following an accident near the Walmart Supercenter parking lot in Commerce Township. The incident occurred around 7 a.m. on Pontiac Trail. According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, a semi-truck was making a turn onto Pontiac Trail from the parking lot when a Chevrolet Malibu driver struck the back of the semi's trailer. The elderly driver of the Malibu had to be rescued from the vehicle and received minor injuries. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. The semi-truck driver was unharmed but was cited for the collision. The Sheriff's Office advised drivers to be cautious around commercial driveways and intersections, especially when large commercial vehicles are entering or exiting roadways.
