Driver suspected of DUI after seriously injuring passenger in crash: state police

The crash occurred around 2 a.m. on Route 183 in Bernville Borough, according to a state police report. The driver reportedly drove into the opposite lane of traffic and then struck a tree. The passenger in the car suffered severe injuries, troopers said, and is receiving treatment at a trauma center as of Sunday afternoon. They believe the passenger was not wearing a seat belt. The driver, a 23-year-old from Pottsville, wore his seat belt and was not injured in the crash. However, troopers say they suspect he was driving under the influence. State police said the investigation is ongoing, and it appears no charges have been filed at this time.
