Driver killed, 2 children hurt in Jefferson County accident

A tragic incident occurred on Saturday, January 31, 2026, in Jefferson County, resulting in the death of a man and injuries to two children in a single-vehicle accident. The Montana Highway Patrol reported that the crash took place after 3 p.m. on I-15 between Boulder and Jefferson City. The driver, a 36-year-old man from Helena, was headed north in a Ford F-250 with two young girls, 4 and 2 years old. The vehicle veered off the road's left side while passing slower traffic and collided with the guardrail after re-entering the road, causing it to roll. Unfortunately, the driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The identities of those involved have not been disclosed. The children, properly restrained in the vehicle, suffered minor injuries. Authorities suspect that alcohol and speed were contributing factors in the accident.
