Driver identified in fatal two-car crash on FM 973
AUSTIN (KXAN) — One person died early Monday morning in a collision between two vehicles on FM 973 near Burleson Road, according to Austin Police. Those roads intersect near the southern-most point of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and near Richard Moya Park. APD received the 911 call reporting the crash around 1:54 a.m. The deceased man was the driver of one of the two vehicles. The crash pinned him inside of his vehicle, per APD; he was pronounced deceased at the scene. On Tuesday, APD identified the driver as Humberto Espino Vasquez, 46. Emergency responders transported the other driver from the scene to an area hospital. No others were in the cars at the time of the crash. The intersection was shut down while emergency responders worked at the scene. Vasquez's death marks Austin's 30th fatal crash and traffic fatality.
