Driver identified in fatal Johnstown police chase, crash

JOHNSTOWN, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- New York State Police announced that the driver killed in a crash on State Route 30A in Johnstown has been identified. The incident happened around 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday. On Wednesday morning, Johnstown Police tried to stop 26-year-old Lexi Bohringer of Sloansville for several alleged vehicle and traffic law violations near Mason and North Market Streets in Johnstown. Bohringer reportedly didn't pull over, resulting in a pursuit with officers. During the chase, police said Bohringer struck a utility pole on Parkwood Avenue before officers lost sight of her car as she turned onto State Route 30A. A deputy with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office then continued the pursuit upon seeing Bohringer travel south on State Route 30A at high speeds. Members of both the Fulton County Sheriff's Office and the Johnstown Police Department arrived to State Route 30A between Glebe and South Melcher Streets shortly after Bohringer collided with a northbound tractor-trailer in the vicinity while fleeing law enforcement. The crash caused Bohringer's car to ignite, leading to officers working to remove her from the burning vehicle. Emergency medical personnel attempted life-saving efforts, but Bohringer was ultimately declared dead at the scene. State Police reported that a quantity of unspecified drugs and a glass smoking device were later recovered from her car. State Route 30A was closed in both directions in the area until around 9 p.m. on Wednesday. The tractor trailer's driver stayed at the scene of the crash and has remained cooperative with law enforcement throughout the ongoing investigation.
