Driver flown to hospital after crash into Huntingdon assisted living facility

HUNTINGDON, Pa. (WTAJ) -- A driver, suspected of being under the influence, was flown to a hospital after crashing into Graystone Manor in Huntingdon. According to Pennsylvania State Police, they were dispatched just before 1:30 a.m. Thursday, July 16, to the assisted living facility on Towne Center Boulevard. Troopers said the vehicle, a 2011 Audi, driven by an unnamed 28-year-old man from Alexandria, was traveling at a high rate of speed on Route 22. The driver lost control, crossed over the road, and hit a ditch, causing the Audi to go airborne. It rotated before hitting a small tree and then crashing into the living facility. The Audi, which crashed into an empty room, came to a final rest on its roof. The driver was pulled from the wreckage and flown to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center with serious injuries. Troopers noted the Audi briefly caught fire but was put out by the building's sprinkler system and responding fire crews. Residents were evacuated from the manor, but should all be returning today as crews have cleaned most of the wreckage. According to Huntingdon Borough Police, the driver was found to be the suspect who allegedly pointed a gun at multiple people just before the crash took place. Police were called around 12:40 a.m. to the 400 block of Washington Street, where witnesses said the suspect left in a black vehicle. While investigating the incident, police learned of the crash at Gray Stone Manor. After the driver was flown to the hospital, police allegedly discovered what they believe to be the gun used in the prior incident inside the Audi. Charges are pending for the driver through the Huntingdon police and state police.
