Driver facing manslaughter after Hillsboro crash injures 3, kills 1

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A driver is facing manslaughter and multiple other charges after Hillsboro police say he crashed his car into a pole, which left three passengers injured and one dead Tuesday night. Around 8:45 p.m., officers responded to reports of a crash at the intersection of Northeast Ronler Drive and Century Boulevard. Officers arrived, finding four people inside the vehicle. The driver, 19-year-old Oscar Regis, had run away from the scene but was soon found and detained by police, officials said. The four passengers were taken to a hospital where one later died from their injuries, police said. Early investigation found Regis was speeding when the vehicle hit a light pole, spun across the sidewalk curb, then stopped in a patch of grass, officials said. Regis was indicted on charges of first-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, third-degree assault, DUII, failure to perform duties of a driver (2 counts), unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person (3 counts), as well as second-degree criminal mischief.
