Driver dies in Wake County crash after sliding on icy bridge, hitting tree, according to troopers
A tragic accident occurred early Tuesday morning in Wake County, resulting in the death of a woman who lost control of her vehicle, a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck, on an icy bridge along US-64 West near mile marker 438. The driver, identified as Diane Ashley Watson, 52, from Middlesex, crashed into a tree after veering off the road. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene. An 18-year-old female passenger in the truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital in Raleigh. Authorities indicated that speeding on the icy bridge may have led to the accident, though no charges are expected to be filed.
