Driver dies in Fort Worth crash following hit-and-run pursuit

A driver is dead following a hit-and-run accident that led to a brief police pursuit through West Fort Worth on Monday afternoon, authorities said.The incident began at approximately 4:30 p.m. on March 2, when West Division officers were called to a hit-and-run in the eastbound lanes of West Freeway near Horne Street. The victim of the initial crash told dispatchers they were following the suspect’s vehicle because it had failed to stop.Officers found the vehicle near Camp Bowie Boulevard and attempted a traffic stop. When the driver refused to stop, a pursuit began heading eastbound.According to investigators, the chase ended shortly after when the suspect struck a curb in the 3700 block of Camp Bowie Boulevard. The driver lost control and crashed into a tree.The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, died at the scene. No other injuries were reported.The Fort Worth Police Department’s Traffic Investigations Unit and Major Case Unit are handling the investigation. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased once a positive identification is made and next of kin are notified.
