Driver detained following car collision at Chabad headquarters in Brooklyn, according to police
A driver was arrested after crashing into the Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters in Brooklyn according to New York City police. No injuries were reported, but authorities are looking into the incident as a possible hate crime. The crash happened around 9 p.m. at the building on Eastern Parkway near Washington Avenue. During a press conference, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch explained that officers stationed outside Chabad headquarters heard a disturbance at the main entrance. Upon investigating, the officers witnessed the driver hitting the rear door of the building twice. The driver was then arrested, but their identity has not been disclosed yet. The Chabad synagogue was evacuated as a safety measure. The NYPD confirmed that no explosives were found in the vehicle. The incident is under investigation by the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force, and security around places of worship in all boroughs will be increased as a precaution. Chabad described the crash as intentional, and Mayor Zohran Mamdani expressed relief that there were no injuries. Governor Kathy Hochul condemned the incident and offered assistance in the investigation.
