Driver crashes into hydrant in Panorama City, rushing waters lift car into the air
Roads were flooded after a driver crashed into a hydrant in Panorama City Tuesday, and the rushing water propelled the vehicle into the air. Surveillance video showed the driver in a Nissan Versa hatchback crossing the busy intersection of Roscoe Boulevard and Ventura Canyon Avenue just before 1 p.m. While moving forward, the driver suddenly swerved to avoid being T-boned by a silver sedan. The maneuver sent the hatchback crashing into a hydrant on a sidewalk just outside a 7-Eleven store. As a flood of rushing water streamed from the knocked-over hydrant, the torrent sent the rear end of the hatchback into the air, keeping the car partially elevated as the roads began flooding. The other driver in the silver sedan speeds away without checking on the crashed vehicle. Fire crews arrived at the scene to check on the driver and passenger, who appeared to be uninjured. No further details were released as the incident remains under investigation. Footage of the incident can be seen in the video player above.
