Driver crashes into chiropractic business in Lorain: Police

LORAIN, Ohio (WJW) - Officials are on the scene after a driver crashed into a chiropractic business in Lorain on Tuesday afternoon. The accident happened just before 3 p.m. at The Joint Chiropractic in the 5300 block of N. Leavitt Road. An elderly man pulled into the plaza parking lot for an appointment at the business, the Lorain Police Department said. According to investigators, the 74-year-old man "believed he was pushing the brake but instead pushed the accelerator." The SUV crashed through the front of the building and came to a stop in the clinic waiting room. "We came back from lunch about 60 seconds after he drove through the door, so we were among the first on the scene, but the clinic was empty. We were closed, nobody was here," said Dr. Wesley Cavanaugh with The Joint Chiropractic. The crash caused damage to the building, but there were no reported injuries. "We're lucky in this case and in this situation and not all of them end this way, so hopefully this is a lesson learned and we can move forward with just some property damage," Lorain Police Captain Jake Morris said. Lorain officers were still at the scene late Tuesday afternoon as crews worked to remove the vehicle from the storefront. A spokesperson for the clinic said it does not appear there was any structural damage to the building, and after repairs are made, they are hoping to reopen in a week or so.
