Driver confusion causes 5 injuries in Sebring Publix crash: Police

Five individuals were hurt in an incident where a vehicle collided with a Publix store in Sebring at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Sebring authorities reported that one pedestrian was struck, and four others sustained injuries when a car crashed into the external wall of the Publix at Southgate Shopping Center on US 27 that evening. Highlands County Fire Rescue also arrived at the location to provide assistance to those injured. The Sebring Police department stated that the 73-year-old driver incurred a fractured arm, while his three passengers suffered minor injuries after the driver mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake while attempting to park. The pedestrian, who faced non-life-threatening severe injuries, was transported to the hospital. The driver has been cited for reckless driving and instructed to retake a driving exam. Officials confirmed that the Publix store remains open for business.
