Driver charged with 5th OWI after Milwaukee car accident

A 39-year-old man from Waukesha is facing a fifth charge of operating while intoxicated (OWI) following an incident at Milwaukee's lakefront on December 29. The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office received a report about a single-vehicle crash at Veterans Park around 11:15 a.m. that day. The vehicle overturned and ended up on the retention wall by the Oak Leaf Trail, with part of it hanging over Lake Michigan. Milwaukee County deputy sheriffs and fire-rescue personnel responded to the scene. The man drove off Lincoln Memorial Drive into the park before crashing close to the General Douglas MacArthur statue. Although he was safely rescued and did not sustain major injuries, he was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Besides the OWI charge, authorities have hinted that more charges could be pending.
