Driver charged months after crash that killed 18-year-old Park Hill student

An 18-year-old from the Riverside, Missouri, area has been charged in connection with a deadly crash involving "very high speeds and alcohol." Om Patel, 18, has been charged with second-degree involuntary manslaughter in a March 22 crash in Platte County, the Platte County Prosecutor's Office announced Friday. This is connection with the crash that killed 18-year-old Park Hill senior Tessa Walker and injured other teens. Patel is accused of driving over 100 miles per hour with alcohol in his system, the prosecutor's office said. He was allegedly speeding on U.S. Route 45 near Farley, Missouri, on a road with a 45-mile-per-hour speed limit. The Platte County Sheriff's Office Crash Investigation Unit estimated his BMW was traveling over 100 miles per hour when the car left the road, flipping. Walker was killed in the crash. A former teacher her said "her passing leaves a hole in countless hearts." Patel allegedly told a deputy at the scene "I drove and killed her," according to court documents. A warrant was issued for Patel's arrest. If convicted, he faces up to four years in prison.
