Driver charged after fiery crash in Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel
HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) -- A driver was charged following a multi-vehicle crash Monday morning on I-64 inside the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel, according to Virginia State Police. It happened at approximately 4:40 a.m. on I-64 eastbound inside the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel (HRBT). A preliminary investigation determined a Dodge Charger was travelling eastbound in the HRBT at a high rate of speed when it struck an SUV and a box truck. The Charger then went airborne, landed and caught fire. State police say the driver of the Charger suffered injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The driver was additionally charged with reckless driving. The crash is under investigation.
