Driver arrested in fatal El Paso motorcycle crash

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- A 21-year-old man has been arrested and is facing charges in a crash that killed two people riding on a motorcycle on Sunday evening, July 12 in El Paso's Lower Valley. David McCall, 21, has been arrested and is facing two charges of collision involving death, El Paso Police said. McCall fled the scene on foot after the car he was driving struck a motorcycle and killed the two people riding it, police said. The victims were identified as Alfredo De La Torre, 44, and Miriam De La Torre, 42. The crash happened at 6:15 p.m. on Sunday along Loop 375 West (Border Highway) near Yarbrough. Special Traffic Investigations was called out to the scene. The preliminary information is that McCall lost control of his vehicle and struck a motorcycle that was also driving along Loop 375. Both occupants were thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene, police said. McCall fled on foot after the crash but was later caught, police said. The GoFundMe page read in part: "Alfredo and Miriam De La Torre were the most selfless people, always welcoming everyone with open arms regardless of any situation. Yesterday, they were tragically killed in a motorcycle accident, leaving our family grieving beyond words. Alfredo and Miriam were the foundation of our family—loving, hardworking, and always putting others before themselves." According to a social media post, both Alfredo and Miriam De La Torre worked for Tropicana Homes. In 2024, McCall pleaded guilty to multiple felony charges stemming from a 2023 human smuggling case, court documents said. Court documents show at the time, he led authorities on a high-speed chase, ran multiple red lights, abandoned his car with people inside and ran away before he was arrested. Those convictions included multiple counts of human smuggling, evading arrest and possessing a prohibited weapon. He received concurrent four-year sentences.
