Driver arrested after car crashes into Mass. restaurant

A driver was arrested Sunday after they were involved in a crash that damaged a Lynnfield, Massachusetts, restaurant, the town confirmed. Early Sunday, a state police trooper saw a car driving erratically on Route 1 North, just before 1:30 a.m.The driver failed to stop when police signaled for them to stop and later exited the highway via the Salem Street ramp. The car later crashed into 618 Salem St., which houses School Street Foods, a Mexican restaurant."It was a sight. It broke my heart. So much blood, sweat and tears. It took a second it was so fast the camera couldn't even capture it," said Javier Baez.Restaurant owner Ed Goodwin said the crash caused structural damage to the building. "We get a call from the cops. I thought something happened and my first thought was we had a fire at the restaurant," Goodwin said. The driver, Benjamin Robert Pimentel, 19, of Lynnfield, was arrested and taken to the state police's Danvers barracks to be booked. Pimentel is facing operating under the influence, failure to stop, negligent operation, as well as several other charges. He will be arraigned Monday in Peabody District Court.Neighbor Angie Satsis said people drive too fast at a turn near Salem Street. Several cars have failed to make the turn near the restaurant and have created traffic problems, but none have caused a crash like Sunday morning's. "The kid made the dumbest decision in his life. Hopefully, it's not a forever thing," Goodwin said.No one was injured in the crash. The incident is under investigation.
