Driver apprehended after fleeing on foot from deadly Somerset County crash
RARITAN BOROUGH, N.J. (Somerset County) — A Bridgewater woman was killed Monday morning in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 202 and First Avenue, and the other driver fled the scene before being apprehended, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office. Police responded to the crash at approximately 6:29 a.m. July 27, where officers found a collision involving a Genesis SUV and an Acura SUV. According to the preliminary investigation, the driver of the Genesis entered the intersection and struck the driver's side of the Acura. The driver of the Acura, a woman from Bridgewater, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said the driver of the Genesis fled the scene on foot but was later apprehended by members of the Raritan Borough Police Department. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. The Somerset County Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit, the Raritan Borough Police Department and investigators from the Northern Regional Medical Examiner's Office responded to the scene. The investigation remains ongoing pending the findings of the Somerset County Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team. Authorities had not announced any charges as of Monday, and the names of the drivers were not released.
