Driver admits to misdemeanor charge in deadly bicycle accident with 7-year-old.
The driver who hit and fatally injured a young cyclist with his truck in September has admitted guilt to a misdemeanor count of careless driving in Beaverhead County Justice Court today. Hunter James Stroeberl received a $1,000 fine, which is deferred for a year. The Beaverhead County Attorney Sky Jones adjusted the charges against Stroeberl, who was initially accused of negligent homicide on Sept. 24. The mother of Enoch Haworth, the 7-year-old boy who lost his life in the collision, expressed her disagreement with the charge in a statement read in court. Court documents revealed that Stroeberl was operating a 2014 RAM when he hit 7-year-old Enoch Haworth as the boy rode his bike through a crosswalk near the high school. The documents state that the driver could have seen the boy but failed to yield, instead accelerating quickly into the intersection. Enoch's parents are now pushing for improved traffic safety measures following this tragic incident. More updates on this story will be provided as additional information is released.
