Driver accused in wrong-way crash that killed 4 on I-40 booked into Canadian County Jail
A man accused of driving the wrong way down Interstate 40 and causing a crash that killed four people last week has been booked into jail. Early Friday morning, a driver was heading east in the westbound lanes of I-40 near Czech Hall Road in Canadian County and crashed head-on into another vehicle, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. The impact of the collision was so hard that it caused the other vehicle to catch fire. Oklahoma Highway Patrol officials said the driver of the other car and three passengers were killed. All four were between 18 and 20 years old. Two of the victims graduated from El Reno High School days before the deadly crash. The 27-year-old driver accused of causing the crash was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Online records show that he has since been booked into the Canadian County Jail, facing several charges including second-degree murder and driving under the influence. Investigators also said they found empty alcohol bottles inside the suspect's car. KOCO 5 has chosen not to release the suspect's name because formal charges have not been filed.
