Driver accused in fatal Union Township crash was allegedly 3 times over limit

A driver arrested in a crash that killed a surveyor on State Route 125 in Union Township was allegedly driving three times over the legal alcohol limit. The crash occurred April 21 on the busy four-lane road, where the victim, 36-year-old Kevin Fuller of Lafayette, Arkansas, was standing in the middle lane without cones, reflective gear or safety equipment, according to investigators.Video evidence shows a Tesla, driven by 19-year-old Prince Patel, traveling faster than surrounding vehicles and possibly using the middle turning lane as a passing lane, according to investigators.Fuller died at the scene of the crash. On Tuesday, a grand jury indicted Patel on five counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, as well as two counts of operating a vehicle under the influence. In court, Patel pleaded not guilty to the charges. Prosecutors in court said Patel was weaving in and out of lanes, going 90 miles per hour. The prosecutor said the crash sent the surveyor airborne, going several feet before landing on the pavement. The prosecutor said Patel was driving under OVI suspension for an OVI crash 44 days prior where he hit a car outside a market in Campbell County and fled. He allegedly admitted to drinking several Buzz Balls and blew a 0.18 that time.According to the prosecutor, Patel was allegedly 3 times over the legal limit at the time of the crash. "The defendant should've never been behind the wheel of a vehicle that day," the prosecutor said, concerned about bond and not complying with orders. The judge set Patel's bond at $1 million.
