Driver, 33, given prison time for fatal Arden Hills collision
A man aged 33 has been handed a sentence for his involvement in a collision in Arden Hills, Minnesota in 2024 that resulted in the deaths of two individuals in their 70s. According to records from the court, Eduardo Tipantuna Quinchiguano was given a 6 years and 10 months sentence by a judge on Monday, with recognition for the time already served amounting to one year and 10 months. The majority of this sentence will be served in prison as per the legal requirement. Quinchiguano had pleaded guilty to two charges of criminal vehicular homicide back in September. The collision took place on westbound Interstate 694 near Snelling Avenue on the morning of Feb. 16, 2024. Reports from the criminal complaint highlight that Quinchiguano was driving a Chevrolet Equinox at the time of the accident, crashing into the victims' Chevrolet Malibu and causing it to veer into another lane in front of a semitruck. This led to a collision between the semitruck and the Malibu, resulting in the fatalities of Curtis O'Connor, 76, and Karin O'Connor, 74, who were inside the sedan. A preliminary breath test showed that Quinchiguano's blood alcohol content was .218, which is nearly three times the legal limit. Court documents also mentioned a statement from a paramedic indicating that Quinchiguano was highly intoxicated to the point of needing hospitalization. Initially facing four counts of criminal vehicular homicide, the prosecution moved to drop two of these charges in September.
