DPS: Man arrested in connection with deadly 3-vehicle crash

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A man was arrested in connection with a fatal crash on south U.S. 183 in February that killed a 33-year-old man. Gustavo Barbosa Sanchez, 24, was arrested on April 17 on a warrant for intoxication manslaughter, according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety. KXAN is working to find an attorney who is representing Sanchez. On Feb. 21 just before 11 p.m., DPS troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash on U.S. 183 near South William Cannon Drive. An investigation revealed that a car was driving at a high rate of speed when it struck the rear of another vehicle, which was then pushed into a truck.  According to DPS, the driver, later identified as Sanchez, sustained serious bodily injuries. He was taken to a local hospital. His passenger, identified as Alejandro Perez Ramirez, 33, died at the scene, DPS said. The drivers and passengers of the other vehicles were treated for minor injuries.  At the time of the crash, a trooper accused Sanchez of driving under the influence of alcohol. DPS said a search warrant was obtained to collect a blood specimen from Sanchez. It was then submitted to the Texas DPS Crime Laboratory for analysis to determine blood alcohol concentration.  DPS received the analysis in March, and according to the release, it revealed that Sanchez had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.211 at the time of the crash. Under Texas law, a person is considered intoxicated if their blood alcohol concentration is 0.08 or higher.
