DPS investigates deadly motorcycle crash in Harlingen

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a two-vehicle crash that left one man dead. At approximately 6:20 p.m. on Friday, DPS troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on San Jose Ranch Road and FM 509 in Harlingen. According to a news release from DPS, a preliminary investigation determined that a Kawasaki ER-6 motorcycle driven by a man was going on FM 509, passing other vehicles in a "no-passing zone," as he was approaching the intersection of San Jose Ranch Road. DPS says a Toyota Tacoma, which was hauling a trailer and was occupied by only the driver, was driving on San Jose Ranch Road and attempting to make a left turn on FM 509 when it crashed with the Kawasaki. The rider of the Kawasaki was identified as Ezra Andrew Duke Villafranco, 23, of San Benito. Villafranco was transported to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, where he died from his injuries. DPS is investigating the fatal crash.
