Docs: Woman arrested in fatal St. Patrick’s Day crash tested nearly twice legal limit
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- The 22-year-old woman who was arrested and charged in a fatal St. Patrick's Day crash that killed a teenager was driving more than 100 mph shortly before the fatal collision and had a blood alcohol content of nearly twice the legal limit, according to court documents obtained by KTSM. El Paso Police arrested Andrea Fernanda Soria, 22, on Thursday, April 9 on a warrant for intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle with a $150,000 bond. She was arrested in connection with a March 17 crash along Interstate 10 near Lee Trevino that killed 15-year-old Sophia Ramirez. According to court documents, Soria had been drinking at an East El Paso swim party and then later at a Central El Paso bar. According to court documents, her blood-alcohol content was nearly twice the legal limit at 0.154. Court documents also said that according to data extracted from her airbags, Soria was traveling at 117 mph five seconds before the crash and nearly 89 mph at impact. The crash killed teenager Ramirez who was a passenger in the other vehicle. According to court documents, Ramirez was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. She died from her injuries two days after the crash. Police said that the vehicle driven by Soria was traveling at "high-rate of speed" when it rear-ended another vehicle at about 11 p.m. on March 17 along Interstate 10 near Lee Trevino. According to court documents, the vehicle that Ramirez was a passenger in tried to move to the far right lane to avoid being hit by Soria's vehicle but ended up being struck at that time. According to court documents, Soria and the occupants of her vehicle were at a swimming party near the area of Chito Samaniego earlier in the day. There, they were all drinking Twisted Teas and tequila shots, according to court documents. The pool party ended at about 9 p.m., according to court documents. That was about two hours before the fatal crash. After the swimming pool party, Soria drove them to a bar in Central El Paso -- later identified as Pablo McIntyers Tequileria and Pub, located on Piedras. There, at the bar, they consumed "Henny shots (Hennessy)," according to court documents. Soria, the suspect in the crash, was initially taken to a hospital for treatment for undisclosed injuries. Later after she was cleared and released, she told police that she had taken two drinks and two shots of tequila at the swim party. She initially told police that she had only drank water at the bar but then told police that she had taken a sip from someone's drink and from one of her friend's. Soria told police she didn't remember how the crash happened. She said she only remembered trying to get home when she said a vehicle veered into her lane and collided with it. After the collision, she said she remembered crawling out of the vehicle through the passenger side door.
