Docs: Pregnant woman injured in drunk driving crash

HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. — A Greenwood woman was charged after she allegedly crashed into a pregnant woman while drunk. Brittany Leigh Hamilton, 35, was charged with the following: Officers were dispatched on Dec. 5, 2025, at approximately 7:50 p.m. on a report of a personal injury accident where a vehicle struck a utility pole in New Palestine in the area of 700 W and US 52. Upon arrival at the scene, officers found an SUV off the roadway and underneath a utility pole that appeared snapped in half. The officer also found a small Hyundai Accent. Hamilton was driving the Hyundai Accent and was immediately transported to an area hospital due to serious injuries. While checking Hamilton's vehicle for identification, Sugar Creek firemen reportedly found paraphernalia. After the responding officer arrived at the hospital, they asked Hamilton multiple questions, to which she allegedly admitted that she had drunk alcohol and smoked prior to driving. Following the completion of a report by the Indiana State Department of Toxicology, it was found that Hamilton had a BAC of 0.191%, which is more than double the legal limit of 0.08%. On Feb. 23, authorities learned the severity of the victim's injuries, including loss of consciousness, fractured bones, and extreme pain for the pregnant woman. FOX59/CBS4 has also learned that Hamilton was arrested for operating while intoxicated after authorities found her allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol and with marijuana in her possession in Lawrence County earlier this month. Hamilton also had her 10-year-old son in the back seat of the vehicle at the time. This is an active investigation. Information will be updated as it becomes available.
