Docs: Man drove 140 mph+ with cocaine in system 5 seconds before May 2025 fatal crash

INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis man has been charged after he allegedly was a part of a fatal May 2025 crash on I-465 southbound, where it connects with I-65, after he had both cocaine and Benzolyecgonine in his blood. According to court documents recently filed in Marion County, 43-year-old Jonatan Soriano was charged with: On the evening of May 28, 2025, officials with the Indiana State Police responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash on I-465 southbound. The driver of a Jeep, later identified as Soriano, reportedly said he was driving southbound when another vehicle cut him off, causing him to lose control. Soriano reportedly had his son in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Court documents stated that Soriano said he was traveling around 80 mph when he lost control and spun off the roadway. Soriano reportedly stated at the time that he remembered hitting a red vehicle. The red vehicle, later identified as a Toyota, reportedly ended up off the roadway. The driver of the Toyota, later identified as Lisa Batts, was pronounced dead at the scene. Following the crash, Soriano was taken to a local hospital for a blood draw. The documents claim that Soriano had both cocaine and Benzoylecgonine in his blood at the time of the crash. As the investigation into the crash continued, the documents claim that the Jeep was driving southbound on I-465 when it swerved across all three lanes onto the right shoulder. The Jeep then reportedly went off the roadway and into the grassy median that separates I-465 southbound from the I-65 ramp. When the Jeep exited the median, it went airborne when it entered the left lane of the I-65 ramp. A witness of the crash stated that the Jeep then t-boned the Toyota on the front driver's side. Both the Jeep and the Toyota then left the roadway. The documents claim that the Jeep was reportedly traveling 140 mph five seconds before the crash. At this time, the Jeep was traveling in a 55 mph zone. According to court documents filed on Thursday in Marion County, no bond will be provided for Soriano until a hearing in open court.
