DOCS: Drinks with ‘Sugar Daddy’ lead to fatal crash

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- The mother of the 19-year-old woman, who was arrested for a collision involving death in a Northwest El Paso crash earlier this week, called police after her daughter fled the scene following drinking with a "Sugar Daddy" earlier in the night, according to court documents obtained by KTSM. As KTSM previously reported, Ambar Chavaria, 19, was involved in a crash on Monday night, April 6 along the 6300 block of North Desert Boulevard, when she rear-ended another vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle, 56-year-old Jaime Humbero Andrade, was transported to a hospital and later died due to his injuries. Chavaria was arrested and is facing a charge of collision involving death. She posted bail the same day with a $100,000 surety bond, according to the El Paso County court records. According to court documents, at around 9:17 p.m. on April 6, a four-vehicle crash happened at the 6300 block of North Desert Boulevard. After the crash, a man got out to check the parties. He saw that behind his truck was a red car, a dark-colored vehicle and a Subaru Outback. The man climbed onto the center cement barrier and began walking back toward the other vehicles. Another party, a man who "looked dazed," was seen sitting on the cement barrier. The first man "momentarily" turned back to check on the man sitting on the barrier when he heard a "hard impact." The man turned back and saw that the Subaru had been rear-ended by a BMW, according to court documents. The two men went to check on the driver of the Subaru, identified as Andrade, and saw a man "slumped over to the passenger area." When they opened the door, they heard Andrade say he couldn't feel anything, court documents read. Both men got Andrade out of the vehicle and tended to him. Then they heard the female driver, identified as Chavaria, yelling and asking where she was. The first man told officers that Chavaria left the area, and he remained with Andrade until emergency services arrived. He was taken to UMC, where he later died from his injuries, according to court documents. Shortly after 10 p.m., Chavaria's mother called police to report that her daughter fled from a crash and she was refusing to return or go to a station. The mother gave officers her daughter's name and address, which matched the information from the BWI registration. Police officers arrived to 6300 Rose Gandara and met with the mother and Chavaria. Officers noted that Chavaria showed "signs of intoxication." EPPD's DWI Task Force unit was requested. According to court documents, an officer asked Chavaria what happened, and she explained that she had been drinking at a bar with her "Sugar Daddy." She told the officer that she drank four alcoholic drinks. After her "Sugar Daddy" had to go home, she left in her BMW to head home and rear-ended another vehicle. Chavaria said after the crash, she got out of her vehicle and walked over to the other vehicle, stating, "it looked bad." "She believed the other person was dead," read court documents. Chavaria was advised to stay at the scene and wait for police, but left. She was also asked if she called 911 to report the crash, but she said no.
