Detroit man held accountable for August car accident on Gratiot resulting in three fatalities
A man accused of causing a deadly crash that resulted in the tragic deaths of three individuals, including two young sisters, has been ordered to stand trial. The fatal accident took place in August on Gratiot in Detroit's east side. The accused, 41-year-old Amir Khalid, is set to face trial for his alleged role in the crash that claimed the lives of Savannah Allen and her 15-year-old sister, Syiana. Initially charged with two counts of reckless driving causing death and one count causing injury, Khalid now faces upgraded charges of second-degree murder following a preliminary examination. Prosecutors claim Khalid was driving at high speeds and engaging in drag racing at the time of the collision. Witness testimonies described Khalid's reckless driving behavior prior to the crash, which was captured in graphic videos shown in court. The judge determined there is sufficient evidence to suggest Khalid was aware of the potential harm his actions could cause, leading to the decision to add charges of second-degree murder. The next court date for Khalid has been scheduled for December 11.
