Deputies: Driver, 17, killed in Fruitland Township crash

FRUITLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Deputies say a 17-year-old driver died after crashing in Fruitland Township Thursday night. It happened around 6:45 p.m. on Whitehall Road near W. Michillinda Road. According to the Muskegon County Sheriff's Office, a 17-year-old boy was driving south in a pickup truck when he left the road and crashed into "an affixed object." No other vehicles were involved in the crash. The driver was taken to the hospital, where he died, deputies said. The 17-year-old's name was not immediately released. Deputies said there were two other juveniles in the truck. Both were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Investigators could not immediately say whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, according to the sheriff's office. Deputies continue to investigate.
