Deputies: 1 dead, 1 critical after Blendon Township crash
BLENDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Deputies say a semi-truck crashed into a pickup truck in Blendon Township Tuesday morning, killing a woman and sending a man to the hospital in critical condition. The crash happened around 5:15 a.m. at Port Sheldon Street and 72nd Avenue. According to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, a 54-year-old man from Butler, Kentucky, was driving a semi-truck north on 72nd Avenue, approaching Port Sheldon. The intersection has an all-way stop, but deputies said the semi-truck driver failed to stop and ended up crashing into the passenger side of an eastbound GMC Sierra. Both vehicles went into the ditch. Deputies said the GMC Sierra's passenger, a 59-year-old woman from Zeeland, died on scene. Her name was not immediately released. Firefighters had to extricate the driver of the GMC Sierra, a 56-year-old Zeeland man. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to the sheriff's office. Deputies said the driver of the semi-truck was also taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The intersection was closed for several hours after the crash. It reopened just before noon. The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, the Blendon Township Fire Department, the Zeeland Township Fire Department and Life EMS responded to the scene.
